Named after Runyon Canyon in California, Runyon takes inspiration from the canyon’s athletic aspects, as a popular destination for all sorts of physical activities from running to yoga, as well as its beautiful natural scenery and wildlife.
As a sportswear company, they fundamentally focus on athletic gear, so their tank tops are mainly tailored to work out in (though you can perfectly wear them casually as well). Founded back in the 90s, Royal Apparel stayed true to their roots by doubling down on American manufacturing while other brands increasingly moved production overseas. They now operate facilities across 3 states and make a wide selection of affordable clothing, among which is range of tank tops for both men and women.
While they offer a fairly limited range in terms of designs, you can get a casual tank top in decent range of colors and fabrics at a very decent price (sometimes even less than $5 during a sale!). So if you’re just looking for a basic, American made tank top that doesn’t break the bank, Royal Apparel is right up your alley. The only real downside we found is that, while we do know they use some American fabrics, it’s never stated specifically on the product pages whether the fabric is imported or made in the USA.
3. Spiritex: organic and 100% American made
If you prefer natural or organic fabrics, Spiritex is definitely worth checking out. While their selection is a little small, in terms of designs and colors, they’re one the only company that offers a full line of organic cotton tank tops made in the USA for both men and women. What’s more, all cotton items from Spiritex are 100% American made! Their cotton is grown in Texas, with the everything from the weaving of the fabrics to the final stitches done in the Carolinas.

As we mentioned at the start of this post, tank tops can be much more than a sleeveless tee. With a little effort it can turn into a cute top or even a classy shirt to wear to dinner. So we wanted to pay some extra attention to those brands that give girls and women across the USA the opportunity to stay cool and comfortable, yet looking stylish as ever.
1. Classy Cozy Cool: most varied selection
I you’re looking for a more feminine tank top that you’re planning to wear as part of a cute outfit or on a warm day at the beach, rather than during a workout or a stay-at-home day, Classy Cozy Cool is probably your best bet. It’s a small, woman-owned online boutique that wants to make it easy for women to buy American made, while still having a lot of unique, affordable designs to choose from. So while they do offer some plain tanks, most feature cute or classy designs worthy of a casual day or even a date-night.
Just like all Classy Cozy Cool clothing, the tank tops are cut and sewn in the USA. The origin of the fabrics depends from item to item. If it’s important to you that the fabric is American made, you can check the product description or browse their made in USA fabric collection (though your options will be more limited).
2. Groceries Apparel: feminine and sustainable
We can best describe Groceries Apparel as a combination of femininity and sustainability; their tank tops are made from natural fabrics, dyed with plant-based dyes (sometimes even sourced from local food-waste!), and tend to show off a little skin or curves. So if you value sustainability, want to wear something comfortable yet cute or work out and look good doing it, Groceries Apparel could be just what you’re looking for.
All their tank tops are made in the USA, more specifically their very own factory in downtown Los Angeles. Unfortunately we don’t currently know where any of their fabrics come from.
3. US Blanks: both casual and athletic
US Blanks strikes the perfect balance between casual and athletic tank tops; comfortable enough to work out in, yet stylish enough to wear in day-to-day outfits. They’re a California based manufacturer that sources their fabrics from a mill located only a few miles away from their facility, so all their tank tops are made in the USA.
Unfortunately, at the time of writing this list, a lot of their tank tops are being discontinued. So while they used to have some options available for men and a more designs for women, that may not be the case anymore. Though they should still be worth checking out if you’re looking for women’s tanks.
Honorable Mentions
As to not make this list too long, we couldn’t fully feature all brands that offer tank tops made in the USA. However, we wanted to briefly include them as they might offer something specific you’re interested in, and because they deserve the credit for making the effort to manufacture in America!
- American Giant makes a small range of athletic tank tops for women. They’re 100% American made, from cotton grown in the USA! Their smaller selection and somewhat higher price compared to Spiritex is the only reason they didn’t feature in the list.
- WSI Sportswear is a Minnesota based manufacturer of athletic apparel. They offer a small range of affordable, mostly women’s tank tops made from American made fabrics.
- Underworks is a shapewear company that, among other things, makes compression tank tops that help shape the body to a more desirable shape. So if that’s something you’re interested in, they might be worth checking out.
- The Flag Shirt is a brand that sells patriotic gear, aming which is a small tange of American made patriotic tank tops for women. So if you’re looking to show your love for the stars and strips, they might be worth taking a look at. Be aware though that not all their items are made in the USA.
