The Capone money clip is designed and manufactured in the USA by Chicago based Ashland Leather. Just like all their wallets, the it’s made with premium Horween leather. In fact, Ashland was founded by two former Horween tannery workers, so you can be sure they know their leathers!
The Capone features a spring clip made from solid brass with a nickel finish that keeps cash nice and secure, and can be folded open for easy access. The whole money clip is beautifully hand waxed and finished with hand-stained or burnished edges.
With it’s 2 interior and 2 exterior card slots, as well as it’s sturdy construction, this money clip is excellent if you’re looking for a something slightly thinner and more accessible than traditional wallets, but might not be for you if you’re looking for truly minimalist.

When it comes to affordable American made money clips, no one beats North Star Leather. They’ve been active since 1969 and have traditionally focused on wholesale, which meant they’ve had to be competitive on pricing.
So while they might lack the premium features of some other brands, you can get a leather money clip that’s made in USA for under $15! Unfortunately, leather for their cheapest clips can’t be guaranteed to have been tanned in the US. But if that’s important to you, they also offer one made from American Horween leather for $45, which is still significantly cheaper than most Horween alternatives.
Overall, if you’re just looking for a simple money clip and the fact that it’s made in the USA is more important than premium leathers and burnished edges, North Star Leather is definitely a great option for you.
✔️ Most affordable money clips made in USA.
✔️ Spring clip on Horween money clips and wire clip on normal leather.
✔️ Also available in a card wallet design.
❌ Might lack some of the fancier features of other wallets on this list.
❌ Slightly too small for some foreign currencies (Euro’s, Yen, etc.)
❌ North Star website looks somewhat outdated.
Bullhide Belts is a somewhat misleading name for this brand, not only do they offer a wide range of wallets, they also offer them in any leather, except for cowhides… Their American made bifold money clips, as well as their magnetic clips come in some truly exotic leathers such as elephant, shark, ostrich, hippopotamus, etc. Even with these exotic leathers, their money clips are still very affordable!
To give you a smooth inner lining however, cow leather is used on the inside on the bifolds. The clip itself is springloaded and folded open to access the cash.
So if you’re a fan of exotic leathers, Bullhide Belts is definitely the brand for you. Alternatively, their bison money clips are quite a bit cheaper compared to other clips on this list while still offering great quality. However, if you have the cash to spend and you’re not interested in exotic leathers, you might want to check out some other options.
✔️ Unique, exotic leathers from USA tanneries who follow the strict requirements of the Convention of International Treaty of Endangered Species (CITES) permits.
✔️ Both available as simple cash clips and card wallets with clip.
❌ Not available in cowhide, if that’s what you prefer.
Casupo money clips are made in California from globally sourced, up-cycled leathers. As a result they feature a more colorful selection than most other brands, but we also can’t guarantee that the leather is tanned in the USA.
While their money clips are overall a great option, especially if you’re looking for a colorful design, they don’t quite offer the same bang for your buck as the MCW or the Capone.
Metal money clips take things one step further compared to leather designs. They basically sacrifice the ability to carry cards or other smaller items for an even more minimalist design and the larger capacity for bills.
While it’s technically possible to carry cards in a metal clip, they generally won’t be held as securely or easy to access and can even be damaged by sliding them in and out of the clip.
Made from springy, yet tough American titanium, Hell-Bent money clips are a sturdy, yet compact solution for your cash carrying needs.
Because it’s relatively small, the clip won’t entirely cover the cash which makes it easy to carry around and to get your cash in or out. On the other hand, your bills might get crumpled or damaged more easily .
Hell-Bent offers a wide variety of patterns and finishes out of the box, but if you don’t find what you’re looking for, you can get one custom made with a design of your choice!
While these clips are not suited for carrying cards, Hell-Bent also make their own aluminum wallets that feature a slot specifically for these money clips.
✔️ Made with American made titanium.
✔️ Slim, minimalist design in a large variety of patterns.
✔️ Compatible with Hell-Bent wallets.
✔️ Made by a veteran-owned company.
❌ Bills protrude on 3 sides, making it easier for them to get crumpled or damaged. Even more so with larger currencies.
❌ Not ideal for carrying cards.
The MC01 by Dango Products really puts the ‘money’ in money clip. At it’s max capacity it holds a staggering 80 bills, with 50 in the clip itself and another 30 in the accompanying silicone band, though these can be switched out for some cards instead.
The clip itself is made from sturdy, yet springy titanium and mounted on an aluminum chassis available in silver, gold and black. As is the tradition at Dango, the clip comes with some extra perks, such as the inbuilt bottle opener and 2 attachment points, ideal for attaching some keys rings, or paracord lanyards.
So if you carry a lot of cash around, the MC01 is probably your best option. If not, then its larger design and somewhat limited card carrying capacity make it the inferior choice compared to many other money clips in this list.
✔️ Huge cash capacity.
✔️ Built in bottle opener and 2 attachment points.
✔️ Silicone band for extra storage.
✔️ Large enough to fit foreign currencies.
❌ A bit bulky if you’re not carrying a lot of cash and not ideal for carrying cards.
❌ We don’t know the origin of the metals.
A modern money clips focus slim, minimalist design, but sometimes you might want something with a bit more of a classic, luxurious look. That’s where Speidel comes in. Known more for manufacturing jewelry than wallets, Speidel has its roots all the way back in 1867 Germany and their US branch opening in 1904!
While cheap imports have forced them to shift a lot of their production overseas, they do still offer a selection of premium, yet affordable brass and silver money clips made in the USA.
✔️ Huge cash capacity.
✔️ Built in bottle opener and 2 attachment points.
✔️ Silicone band for extra storage.
✔️ Large enough to fit foreign currencies.
❌ Their website offers very little information about the clips (size, capacity, images, etc).
❌ Not suitable for holding cards.
❌ We don’t know the origin of the metals.
Lastly, we have magnetic money clips. They’re generally not as widely used compared to bifold- or metal clips and there’s a reason for it. Just like metal clips, they’re almost exclusively useful to store cash, with the added danger that the magnets can damage the magnetic strips on your credit cards.
They also tend to be more bulky compared to metal clips. And while they do tend to hold bills more tightly than other clips when you’re only carrying a few, the reverse is true when you’re carrying more. Their main advantage though is ease of use; you can get the bills in or out of the clip extremely fast and easy.
For a company that has belts as part of their name, Bullhide Belts is one of the few companies that offer a large selection American made magnetic money clips. More than that, they make them in some truly exotic leathers such as elephant, shark, ostrich, hippopotamus, etc.
Their magnetic clips come in two forms: a simple cash clip and a card wallet with an attached clip. The first being perfect if all your carrying is some bills, while the second gives the you the benefits of a magnetic clip while also allowing you to carry some cards.
Overall Bullhide Belts offer you the most varied selection of magnetic money clips made in USA that doesn’t break the bank. The only downside is that they don’t over cowhide leather, so if you’re opposed to exotic leather, this might not be a great option. Though bison leather is in many ways more sustainable than cowhide.
Hopefully this list was helpful to you and you found something you liked. While there are other brands that make money clips in the USA, such as the Lifetime Leather magnetic clip or the Range Leather bi-fold, we chose not include them here because we felt that either there were better options or they didn’t have any outstanding features. But if you think we missed one that should have made the list, comment below or shoot us an email and we’d be happy to review them!
